Hailed by the German press as \the definitive video production" of Tchaikovsky's music, this exceptional concert series, recorded live from the 'Alte Oper Frankfurt', features the leading Russian conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev and the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. The first performance of the 'Third Symphony', at which the composer was present, took place in Moscow on 7th November 1875, at the first symphony concert of the Russian Musical Society, conducted by N. G. Rubinstein. Mikhail Pletnev is a pianist, conductor, and composer with a life-long affiliation to Tchaikovsky. He won the Gold Medal of the VI International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1978, which earned him international recognition and drew great attention worldwide, and taught at the Moscow Conservatory where he transcribed and performed transcriptions of Tchaikovsky's symphony and ballet music.
