For the uninitiated, the Vihuela is a gigantic lute that usually makes a rather spectacular presence in Early Music instrumental groups. It is also the bass of the lute family, exhibiting considerable tonal power.
Milan and Narvaez were two of the most important Spanish composer of the early 16th century, though Narvaez probably only lived 20 years.
Both composers provide Christopher Wilson with a demonstration of the instrument's potential, the short, but still elaborate Fantasias by Milan masterpieces of the repertoire.
