During his lifetime, Asger Hamerik (1843-1923) was one of the best known Danish composers outside Denmark. Both his great Requiem and the Choral-Symphony no. 7 were premiered while Hamerik was the director of the conservatory of the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, USA.
Hamerik's music echoes the grandeur of the composer's admired teacher, Hector Berlioz, and forms an important link in Danish music history between Niels W. Gade and Carl Nielsen.
\Hamerik's symphonies truly belong in the repertoire of major orchestra, and most certainly deserve a place in your CD collection."
